Spirit of the Retreat 2024

In celebration of the Double Jubilee* of St. Thomas Aquinas - the 700th Anniversary of his Canonization and the 750th Anniversary of his dies natalis (death), the University of Santo Tomas will hold a university-wide retreat on March 5,6,7, 2024 at the Quadricentennial Pavilion. The theme of this St. Thomas Aquinas Double Jubilee Retreat is "Lord, nothing but you": Faith, Hope, and Love in the Heart of Saint Thomas ("Domine, non nisi Te": The Triahaec in the Heart of St. Thomas).

"Lord, nothing but you" ("Domine, non nisi Te") was the very response of St. Thomas himself when, while in devout prayer, the voice of Christ from the crucifix spoke to him, "You have written well of me, Thomas. What reward will you receive from me for your labor?" Even in his brilliance, the Angelic Doctor's being is enveloped in wisdom and humility. Thus, Pope Pius XI distinguished him as "the saintliest of the learned and the most learned of the saints." The heart of St. Thomas beats with steadfast faith, unquenchable hope for God's promise, and unconditional love for Him and those He loves.

This Double Jubilee Retreat will give us, Thomasians, the opportunity to pause and reflect on how we can incarnate Faith, Hope, and Love (the Triaheac as exemplified by St. Thomas) in our family life, in our journey as students, and in our vocation as educator-shepherds.

Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother and prayers of St. Dominic de Guzman, St. Thomas Aquinas, and the UST Martyrs, may this retreat be a moment of grace and renewal, of listening to the "voice of Christ from the crucifix" speaking to our hearts, of rekindling the virtues of faith, hope, and love that God infused in us. May we imitate St. Thomas, our patron and inspiration, in blending ingenuity with childlike humility, in preaching truth in charity, in seeking nothing but the Lord.

*Letter of Fr. Gerard Francisco P. Timoner III, OP, Master of the Order of Preachers, 25 January 2023

Prayer for the Double Jubilee of Saint Thomas Aquinas

Dearest God, Our Loving Lord,
True Source of light and wisdom,
You have blessed the People of God
through the Order of Preachers
with the holiness and teaching
of Saint Thomas Aquinas
whose brilliant doctrine
shines like the sun,
whose exemplary life
illumines the world.

On this, double jubilee of
his dies natalis and of his canonization,
we ask for a double portion of his spirit
that all Thomasians -
students and teachers,
employees and administrators,
alumni and their loved ones,
as well as true devotees,
may become faithful and fruitful
in our mission of preaching the Gospel,
in seeking, serving and sharing the Truth,
in extending and expanding
the embrace of Your unending grace.

with St. Thomas' help,
through Mary's plea
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
